Comment
Douglas Fairbanks vows to avenge the death of his father by infiltrating the pirates who killed him and bringing them justice, however when he joins the pirate ship he finds a princess that he also wants to rescue. This was one of the first major films to be released in colour and shows why Douglas Fairbanks was such a major star of the period. He in effect created the action hero role and did all his own stunts without the aid of computer graphics. Compared with more recent pirate films it is very dated but if you sit back and watch it as the original audiences did then you can enjoy a landmark piece of cinema.
